Dear UPSD Staff, Parents and Guardians:
I am very excited to share that all three funding measures on the ballot for the February 10th special election are currently passing by wide margins. On behalf of everyone on the UPSD team, I want to thank our parents and community members for this amazing and generous show of support.
Proposition #1, the Educational Programs and Operations Levy, was supported by 72% of voters. This essential funding source accounts for 15% of our annual revenue and supports staff and programs that are not funded (or are underfunded) by the state. Approval of this levy maintains current funding levels for the next four years. This is great news!
Proposition #3, the Safety, Technology and Capital Improvements Levy, was supported by 73% of voters. This is a smaller funding source that provides annual revenue for instructional technology, safety technology and improvements to our facilities. Approval of this levy maintains funding for technology and capital projects at all 8 schools for the next four years. This is also great news!!
Proposition #2 will fund the replacement of Sunset Primary, Chambers Primary and multiple buildings at Curtis High School. Our school construction bond measure was supported by 69% of voters. This amazing level of support for a bond measure is uncommon and exemplifies the unmatched commitment to education in University Place. Funding from Proposition #2 will have lasting impacts and benefit UP students for decades to come. This is super-great news!!!
These results are bolstered by a strong voter turnout. More than 7,800 ballots have been counted, which represents the highest return in Pierce County at 37%. This is more than twice the number of votes necessary for official validation.
Thank you again for all of your efforts in support of these funding measures. We are very lucky to work in a community that provides such generous and consistent support for its public schools. I look forward to sharing more with you about school design and construction planning in the months ahead.
With gratitude,
Jeff Chamberlin
